Syllabus 2017

Syllabus and Reading List

Brooklyn College Summer I 2017 Prof. A. Gini / 3109 Boylan Hall
CLAS 1110 (Code=3085) Section G MTWTh  8:05-9:50PM

Welcome. I have tried to make the course as e-friendly as possible in order to reduce costs and to allow your to read the assignments from any internet-accessible device. The readings will be put on the blog as a URL (rather than a cut-and-paste) so you will need good internet access, either on your phone or at home (or, failing those, here at school). SO YOU ARE NOT REQUIRED TO PURCHASE ANY BOOKS. You may find it useful from time to time to print out your own materials, and it would be good to print out the required readings before class in order to take notes on them (unless you can manage a way to do the same electronically).

Unless otherwise indicated you can simply go to the COURSE SYLLABUS and use the link to find the texts you'll need.

With the exception of the first day of class, read the Assigned Readings in preparation before that day’s lecture. I will mention in class the night prior to the due dates how and whether the required readings will be 'narrowed down.'

There will be a midterm exam and final exam, each with short answers and passage identification. You will receive appropriate exam preparation materials for these well in advance. Generally short-answer exams will be generted from quizlet.com (urls will be posted well in advance of the tests).

There will be a writing assignment each class (the final half-hour of class). I will explain in class how this relates to the required paper. The writing assignment is to be done in blue exam booklets, which I will provide, in your own handwriting.
